Lady Bison Split with Hastings

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist split a pair of one-run games with Hastings Saturday, winning the opener 2-1 before losing 8-7 in the second game.

Haylee Zimmerman (2-0) went the distance in the opener, striking out six and allowing one run on six hits.

OBU scored in the first inning when Katie Reyes reached on an error, stole second and scored from there on a bunt single by Shelby Savage.

Hastings tied the game in the fourth but Reyes singled home Rachel Birchfield in the fifth.

OBU had four hits in the game.

The Lady Bison had two three-run leads in the second game but couldn't hold either. Sam Barry had an RBI ground out and Cheyenne Demaree added a two-run home run – her first college round-tripper – for a 3-0 OBU lead in the second.

With the score tied at 3-3, Bry Flanagan singled in a run and later scored on a wild pitch before Madison Vaughan launched her second home run of the season.

Hastings answered with a grand slam by All-American Corrin Ziepke in the fourth.

OBU tied it in the home half of the fourth when Reyes walked, stole second and third and scored on an outfield error with two outs.

Reyes swiped five bases in the doubleheader and now has nine on the season.

The Lady Bison had seven hits in the game, including two each by Vaughan and Demaree. Amanda Peterson (0-1) took the loss in relief. Bailee Saye had 2.2 innings of one-hit, shutout relief to her credit.

Now 3-1, the Lady Bison open Great American Conference play Friday at Henderson State.
