SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist scored 23 runs on 22 hits in opening softball season with a 14-1, 9-1 sweep of Southwestern College Friday at Lady Bison Park.

OBU had four home runs on the day.

The Lady Bison scored the first three runs in the second inning on a three-run home run by
Madison Vaughan.
Â
"I was just tremendously impressed with them and their excitement about playing together," said OBU Coach
Pam Fink. "We're definitely a family out there and they just want to be here."

The Lady Bison played error-free for the two games and outfielders took away multiple hits from the Moundbuilders.

OBU posted eight runs in the second inning, including an RBI double by
Katie Reyes, an RBI fielder's choice by
Miranda Garza, a three-run home run by
Sam Barry and an RBI single by Reyes.

OBU added an unearned run in the third and a two-run home run by Reyes in the fourth.

OBU had 13 hits in the game, including four (a home run, two doubles and a single) by Reyes and two each by Vaughan and
Morgan Hughes.

Haylee Zimmerman (1-0) and
McKenzie Jones combined on the one-hitter with Zimmerman getting the win and Jones filing two perfect innings of relief.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, OBU tied the game in the home half with an RBI single by
Shelby Savage.
Â
The Lady Bison scored twice in the second on a two-run double by
Jill Shipman and twice more in the third on a two-run single by
Cheyenne Demaree.

Bry Flanagan added an RBI single in the fourth and winning pitcher
Bailee Saye ended the game with a three-run home run in the fifth.
Â
Saye and Flanagan led the Lady Bison with two hits each.
Â
Now 2-0, the Lady Bison host Hastings at 1 p.m., Saturday.
