SHAWNEE – The Lady Bison face a quick turnaround, playing for a second time in less than 24 hours as they take on the University of Montevallo on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in Montevallo, Alabama. It is the second game is as many days for Oklahoma Baptist as they look to get their first win of the season when they face the Falcons.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (0-1) dropped their season opener on the road in Huntsville, Alabama, falling to last season's No. 1-ranked offense in the form of the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
Â
Lauren McCormack became the third straight Lady Bison to notch a hat trick on her debut in the Green-and-Gold, following a trend set by
Allison Ingrim in 2015 and
Alexis Martin in 2016. McCormack currently leads the team with three goals, and is tied for the team lead in points with Martin (2g, 1a) at three points.
Â
Defensively, OBU will need to rally after surrendering 21 goals to the Chargers on Friday afternoon. It was freshman netminder
Courtney Barnickle's first start in goal, and she was saddled with her first career loss despite a nine-save performance.
Paige Morrison currently leads the team in both groundballs and caused turnovers with five each, while
Haley Ballard is second on the team with four groundballs.
Â
Montevallo is the second opponent to open their season against OBU in 2017. The Falcons went 6-12 last season, and are led by attacker Jami Hudak who averaged 3.1 goals per game last season. On the defensive side, UM returns a pair of goalies that split starting responsibilities in Irfana Ahmed and Jo Northen, who combined for a 15.29 goals-against average and .460 save percentage.
Â
The two teams have met once before, and the Lady Bison will be looking to exact revenge of a home loss from last season. A two-goal rally in the final 1:38 of regulation by the Lady Bison sent the game to overtime, but the Falcons narrowly escaped with an 18-17 decision.
