Edge Scores Double-Double

SHAWNEE – Tasha Edge posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 74-66 loss to Arkansas-Monticello in the home and Great American Conference opener in the Noble Complex Thursday.

Edge had six field goals and went five of seven from the free throw line and four of her 12 boards were on the offensive end.

After trailing most of the first quarter, OBU looked to have turned a corner in the second period. The Lady Bison got eight points from Edge in a 10-0 run to take a 34-30 lead with 2:50 remaining in the half.

The lead swelled to 37-32, but the Blossoms surged back to take a 39-7 lead at halftime and finished a 13-0 run in the second half for a 45-37 lead.

The UAM lead peaked at 59-49 with 1:25 left in the third quarter.

The Lady Bison trimmed that lead to 62-60 with 4:40 left in the game with McKenzie Cooper, Lexi Williams and Shaylan Coleman all scoring in a 6-0 run. OBU, however, went nearly two minutes without a field goal as UAM built a buffer.

Williams scored 14 points and Cooper added 12. Autumn Avina had six assists. Coleman, Avina and Williams had three steals each.

Now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the GAC, the Lady Bison host Southern Arkansas at 1 p.m., Saturday. SAU lost at Southern Nazarene 72-59 Thursday.
