SHAWNEE – The unbeaten run increased to eight as Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer bagged an overtime winner over West Texas A&M on Monday night at the OBU Soccer Complex for a 1-0 victory.
Â
With the win, OBU wrapped up its nonconference slate with a 5-1 mark against opponents outside the Great American Conference.
Â
It was a frustrating opening 90 minutes for the Lady Bison, who outshot the Lady Buffs, 19-3. A goalmouth scramble in the final minutes of regulation proved fruitless for OBU, and for the second time in three matches the Lady Bison were headed to overtime.
Â
In the first minute of extra time,
Hannah White found a streaking
Ruth King down the right wing and slid her the ball on the run. King whipped in what appeared to be a cross to
Abigail Parker on the back post, but the cross curled towards goal and nestled in the left side-netting after just 49 seconds of overtime to give OBU the victory.
Â
The Lady Bison defense held West Texas A&M without a single shot on goal for the entire match.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (10-1-1, 5-0-1 GAC) now sets its sights on the second leg of GAC competition when they welcome Ouachita Baptist to the OBU Soccer Complex at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12.
