SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer takes on Southwestern Oklahoma State in a battle between two of the top three teams in the Great American Conference on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the OBU Soccer Complex in Shawnee.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist (9-1, 4-0 GAC) own a league-best five-match win streak heading into Thursday's contest, including the GAC's only perfect league mark. Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-3-1, 2-1-1 GAC) sit in third place, but have won just once on the road this season.
Â
The Lady Bison bring a high-powered offense that's averaging 2.22 goals and 22 shots per match against a Bulldog defense that's allowed 1.88 goals per match through eight outings.
Ruth King and
Hannah White will lead OBU's offense on to the field as the team's joint leading goal-scorers on five goals apiece, while King is tied with her SWOSU counterpart Alimata Rabo for a GAC-high five assists.
Â
Defensively, OBU has allowed nine goals all season, and will look to strengthen their already strong credentials against a SWOSU offense that's scored a GAC-leading 2.56 goals per match. Three different Lady Bison have been named GAC Defender of the Week this season, most recently
Lara Haring-Lovett who earned the honor this week after helping OBU to two clean sheets last week against Southern Nazarene and Harding.
Â
Emily Griffith and the defense hasn't conceded a goal in the last 258 minutes of action, and leads the league with three shutouts. Her GAC-best .98 goals-against average will be tested by Rabo, who's scored 10 goals this season.
Â
Griffith's counterpart in goal, Lexie Bates, owns a 1.75 GAA and a league-low .667 save percentage.
