Match Notes

SHAWNEE – Another stiff test awaits the women of Oklahoma Baptist Volleyball as they travel to Edmond, Oklahoma, to face No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. inside the Hamilton Field House.

The Lady Bison wrapped up the Eckerd College Tournament last week with a 3-1 record as Kynnedy Myers and Nicole Fleitman received all-tournament honors. Fleitman currently leads the team, and Great American Conference, with an average of 4.43 kills per set, while Mikayla Lowery is currently laying down 3.57 kills/set to lead all GAC freshmen. Myers had great distribution throughout the first four matches of the season, averaging 10.7 assists per set.

Defensively, digging out 17.21 digs per set, while at the net they are sending back 1.72 attacks per set. Shekinah Sharpe leads the team with 3.36 digs/set, though Katrina Horner is not far behind at 3.29/set. Cadyn Laing paces the front court with 10 total blocks. Five of her blocks are solo stops.

Central Oklahoma is currently ranked as the ninth-best team in Division II by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. They opened up their season 4-0 at the Southeastern Oklahoma Invitational, dispatching GAC members East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma State. Taylor Bevis is the top offensive threat after averaging 3.92 kills/set during the opening weekend of play. She is helped in large part by the distribution of Katy Davis, who leads the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association with 12.31 assists/set. Bonnie Vernon leads the team with 4.92 digs/set.

Following Wednesday's match, OBU hits the road for Missouri where they will compete at the Green and Gold Challenge. The first two teams up for the Lady Bison are the hosts from Missouri Western State (10 a.m.) and Missouri S&T (2 p.m.)
