Lady Bison on Target in Hendrix Win

Box Score (html)

CONWAY, Ark. – The Lady Bison snapped a shutout streak that was over 315 minutes in the making as they dropped Hendrix College, 3-1, on Monday night at the Warrior Soccer Field in Conway, Arkansas. Oklahoma Baptist has now won three straight for the first time since 2014.

The first half looked to be disastrous for Oklahoma Baptist, as the Lady Bison scored an uncharacteristic own goal within the first five minutes of the match. However, the worry didn't last for long as Ruth King finally found her breakthrough in her rookie campaign, blasting the ball through the Hendrix goalkeeper Jordan Rausch's arms on the left side of the box off the feed from Abigail Hicks in the 14th minute of play to knot it up at 1-1. The Lady Bison would gain the lead following a nifty combination down the right flank between Hicks, King and Kenzi Bice. The senior midfielder's shot got past Rausch in the 20th minute.

As the half wore on, the Lady Bison enjoyed the lion's share of the ball. However, if not for a save by Emma Beck just before the break, it would have been 2-2 and a new match coming into the second half of play.

With Oklahoma Baptist in the ascendancy, the offense continued to press their advantage, piling on the shots at Rausch's goal. Ruth King would double her delight in the 74th minute, effectively icing the match after collecting a pass from Bice to make it 3-1 with 16 minutes left to play.

The Lady Bison outshot the Warriors 18-10, including an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Emmily Infante led the way with five shots, four on-goal, but was unable to open her account for 2016. Beck picked up her third win of the season while posting three saves in the victory.

Oklahoma Baptist now shifts its focus to Great American Conference play, which begins Thursday, Sept. 22 with a home match against Harding at 5 p.m.
