SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist looks to continue its redemption home stand Saturday when Southeastern Oklahoma State visits Crain Family Stadium at the Hurt Memorial Athletic Complex for a noon kickoff.
Â
The Savage Storm beat the Bison 40-27 in Durant last season in a contest influenced by a controversial fumble recovery that set Southeastern up inside the OBU three yard line.
Â
Both teams come in at 1-1 after winning last week. OBU surprised Arkansas Tech, 19-15, and Southeastern scored a win over Ouachita Baptist.
Â
Charles Taylor III is coming off a strong game for the Bison after preventing two touchdowns with a forced fumble and an interception in the end zone against Arkansas Tech. His performance earned him accolades as Player of the Week from both the NCCAA and Great American Conference.
Â
But Taylor wasn't a one-man show, as OBU got a dozen tackles out of senior linebacker
Levi Jennings and 10 from senior defensive back
D'Ante Meeking, while senior defensive lineman
Edward Morgan Jr. forced a Wonder Boys safety.
Â
Offensively, the Bison ran the ball well with sophomore running back
Isaiah Mallory rushing for 140 yards and both OBU touchdowns, while junior quarterback
Dezmond Stegall threw for 181 yards.
Junior placekickerÂ
Trey Tully added his first field goal since 2014 when he hit two against Haskell.
Â
Southeastern running back Ronnie Green rushed for 109 yards last week against Ouachita Baptist and CB Cantwell threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns. The Storm needed about all of that as Ouachita quarterback Andrew Warford rushed for 174 yards and passed for 260. SOSU allowed 545 yards of total offense to the Tigers.
Â
The Bison hit the road for two weeks after the Southeastern contest, playing at East Central in Ada Sept. 24, and at Arkansas-Monticello Oct. 1.
