Lacrosse Hosts Senior Night Saturday

Game Notes

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist returns home for their first game at the OBU Lacrosse Complex in over a month when they welcome Benedictine College on Saturday night at 6 p.m. Prior to the game, the Lady Bison will be honoring their three graduating seniors: Sabrina Attaway, Kari Callahan and Emily Joslin.
 
Oklahoma Baptist (4-6) snapped a five-game losing streak last week with a 19-9 drubbing of their oldest rival, Midland, in Fremont, Nebraska. Alexis Martin set two single-game school records with her nine goals and ten points (9g, 1a), while also seizing the freshman goal-scoring record with her third goal of the game and 27th of the season.
 
The Lady Bison's offense has been rolling against NAIA opponents this season, averaging 15.0 goals per game, and will look to continue that trend this weekend against the visiting Ravens. Martin leads the team with 33 goals, and will look to get help from Allison Ingrim who currently has 12 goals and five assists on the season.
 
Defensively, OBU has yet to allow more than nine goals to an NAIA opponent, and opponents from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics are currently averaging just 5.3 goals per game against the Lady Bison. Oklahoma Baptist currently holds a slim advantage in ground balls, averaging 22.5 per game to their opponents' 22.0. The Lady Bison have been led in the category by Ingrim with 3.2 per game, while Savannah Tompkins is averaging 2.4 per contest.
 
Benedictine (5-4) comes into the game having suffered a 29-6 setback to Rockhurst earlier this week. The Ravens are averaging 12.3 goals per game, and are currently tied for second in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Julianne Smith has done the heavy lifting for BC this season, pouring in 18 goals and seven assists. In the goal circle, Suzy Dillingham has allowed 12.0 goals per game.
 
Oklahoma Baptist closes out the 2016 season with a home game against Missouri Valley College next Saturday, April 16th at 10 a.m.
 
GAME NOTES
 
Setting the Scene
- Oklahoma Baptist will look to make it two wins in as many weeks as they welcome Benedictine College to Shawnee for Senior Night on Saturday, April 9th at 6 p.m.
- The Lady Bison will be honoring their three graduating seniors prior to the game: Sabrina Attaway, Kari Callahan and Emily Joslin
- This is the first meeting between the two programs, and the fourth member of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (NAIA) that the Lady Bison will face this season. OBU is currently 3-0 against KCAC schools this season
 
Scouting the Ravens
Current Record: 5-4
- The Ravens enter Saturday's tilt on a two-game slide having lost to Missouri Baptist and Rockhurst by a combined score of 40-12, including a 29-12 loss on Thursday night to Rockhurst
- Against shared opponents (Saint Mary, Midland, MBU and RU), the Ravens hold a 2-2 record  after dispatching USM and MU, and have given up 58 goals while scoring 32
- Benedictine's offense is currently averaging 12.3 goals per game, led by Julianne Smith with 18. Other notable scores are Cailtyn Chickey (14g) and Elizabeth Darrow (13g)
- On the ground, the Ravens are averaging 19.4 ground balls per game, and hold a +4.3 margin in the category over their opponents
- Suzy Dillingham has played every minute in the goal circle this season for BC, and currently holds a 12.0 goals-against average
 
The Coaches
Oklahoma Baptist: Jordan Beech
- Jordan Beech took over as the fourth coach in program history in December 2015
- Beech played collegiately for Oklahoma State and the University of Oklahoma in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, featuring as a defensive midfielder
- Developing the sport from the grassroots levels, helped to form the first boys' high school program in Oklahoma in 2006
- Prior to taking over at OBU, Beech made coaching stops at Deer Creek Lacrosse Club and Edmond Lacrosse Club and holds a Level 2 coaching certificate through US Lacrosse
 
Benedictine College: Amanda Magee
- Amanda Magee was introduced as Benedictine's first coach in February 2015
- Prior to taking over at BC, Magee spent three years as an assistant coach at Division III Salve Regina, helping Seahawks to a 19-28 record over that span
- Magee was an all-conference and all-region selection in goal at Division III Roger Williams (R.I.), where she graduated from in 2010
 
Lady Bison Rout Midland
- A five-game losing streak came to a screeching halt as Oklahoma Baptist emphatically dispatched Midland, 19-9, in Fremont, Nebraska last Saturday
- Alexis Martin and Allison Ingrim combined for 15 goals, while Hannah Dowell chipped in with two goals and Emily Gilbert and Callahan notched one goal each
- OBU assisted on seven goals, led by Gilbert with three. Callahan, Dowell, Martin and Jamie Jefferson also provided helpers
- Attaway posted eight saves for a save percentage of .471. She also helped the defense to a clear rate of 90 percent against the Warriors
- OBU claimed a 14-12 victory at the center circle, paced by Ingrim with seven draw controls
- The win was the third straight against Midland, tying the all-time series at 3-3
 
Martin Named OklahomaSports.Net Player of the Week
- For the first time in program history, Oklahoma Baptist has had a player tabbed as the OklahomaSports.Net Player of the Week
- Alexis Martin earned the award after shattering several records against Midland last week
- With nine goals to her credit, Martin broke the single-game goal record set by Dowell last season against Missouri Baptist (8). Additionally, Martin accounted for 10 points against the Warriors (9g, 1a) to set a new single-game points record. The old mark was set by Paige Morrison last season against Asbury (Ky.), who had seven goals and two assists
- Martin's third of nine goals on the day also gave her the freshman goal-scoring record (27). She now has 33 goals on the year
 
Offensive Notes
- Oklahoma Baptist pushed their goal average up to 9.7 per game. They are averaging 15.0 goals per game against NAIA opponents
- The Lady Bison have tied their season record for free-position attempts (52) set last year. OBU has converted a school record 18 free-position shots this year, led by Paige Morrison with seven
- Ingrim's seven draw controls this past weekend are tied for the third most in a single game, and set a new career high. She is five controls away from tying the season record set by Dowell last year (34). Ingrim also needs just two more controls to clinch the single-season record for draw controls per game as she is currently averaging 2.9
- Four different Lady Bison have assisted five times this season: Gilbert, Ingrim, Martin and Morrison. OBU has assisted on 29.9 percent of their goals scored in 2016
- With three assists in seven appearances this season, Callahan currently has the seventh-best assists per game average for a single season (.43a/game)
- Jefferson's assist against MU was her first point since she assisted Joslin's goal on March 7th, 2015 against Cornell College
 
Defensive Notes
- For the first time in five games, the Lady Bison defense held the opposition to nine or fewer goals. Oklahoma Baptist is 4-0 when the opponent fails to eclipse 10 goals
- Of the opponents' 216 turnovers, 47.2 percent have been forced by OBU's defense. Ingrim leads the Lady Bison with 18 caused turnovers for an average of 1.8 per game. Suzie Wisham leads all defenders with 16 caused turnovers. It is also the second straight season that the Lady Bison have caused at least 100 turnovers
- OBU is averaging 22.5 ground balls per game, led by Ingrim with 32 total GBs. Savannah Tompkins is second on the team with 24, while Dowell has also breached the 20-GB barrier with 21
- Attaway holds a .346 save percentage, having saved a total of 65 shots this season. She has 271 career saves
 
Looking Ahead
- The final game of the season is next Saturday, April 16th at 10 a.m. against Missouri Valley College
- Oklahoma Baptist will meet the Vikings for the first time in program history
