Lady Bison Can't Close Out SOSU

SHAWNEE – A pair of seventh inning collapses cost Oklahoma Baptist two games Friday as Southeastern Oklahoma State scored six runs in two seventh innings for a 6-5, 9-6 sweep, the latter coming in eight innings.

OBU took a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning of the first game and allowed two runs, before blowing a 5-2 lead in the seventh in the second game. It is the third seventh-inning rally to win or take the lead against OBU in as many games.

Kasey Maddox delivered a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener with an RBI triple, but SOSU scored two unearned runs in the third for a 2-1 lead.

Miranda Garza added an RBI double in the fourth to make it 2-2.

SOSU answered with two runs in the sixth on an Ashton Adkins double to make it 4-2.

Caitlin Hall had a three-run home run to give OBU a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth, but SOSU got an RBI single by Sydney Kramer and she eventually scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

OBU had nine hits in the game, including two each by Kasey Jo Burgess and Garza. Shalee Cordell established a new school record with her 50th career double in the seventh inning.

Corbi Parasich doubled in a run for a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game and OBU built a 5-0 lead with four runs in the fourth, including an RBI ground ball by Sam Barry, a two-run double by Jill Shipman and a squeeze bunt by Cordell.

Keisha Thompson hit her first home run of the season to break up Bailee Saye's shutout in the fifth and hit her second in the eighth.

OBU rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when Hall doubled to left and pinch runner Alex Gabriel scored the tying run on two throwing errors on a pickoff attempt.

The Lady Bison had 10 hits, with Burgess, Parasich and Shipman getting two each.

The two teams finish the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in OBU's first Bark in the Park. Fans are encouraged to bring their leashed dogs to the game.
