Records Fall in Lacrosse Victory

Box Score (html)

FREMONT, Neb. – A career day by Alexis Martin helped power the Lady Bison to victory, 19-9, over Oklahoma Baptist's oldest rival, Midland. The win halted a five-game road slide by OBU as the Lady Bison remain undefeated against NAIA competition this season.

Martin, a freshman, paced the team with nine goals. While that total alone sets the single-game goal-scoring record, Martin also claimed the record for most goals scored by a freshman in a single season after she completed her hat trick in the first 10 minutes of the game. With the addition of her assist on Kari Callahan's goal in the first half, she also set the single-game record for points with 10 (9g, 1a).

Despite two quick goals by the Warriors in the opening 90 seconds, the Lady Bison struck back through a goal by Hannah Dowell. Midland recovered their two-goal advantage before eight straight goals for OBU pacified the Warriors. Allison Ingrim struck first off a feed from Dowell before Martin ripped off five of the next six goals. Emily Gilbert and Callahan also got in on the act before Midland found the back of the net two more times to make the score 9-5 heading into the interval.

Martin opened the second half with another goal just over a minute into the second half. Midland would score three of the next four goals in the game, only interrupted by an Ingrim goal off a Gilbert assist. Ingrim and Martin teamed up for the next five goals in the game with Gilbert, Callahan and Jamie Jefferson each supplying at least one helper during that span.

The Warriors had one more goal in them, but three more Lady Bison goals pushed the game into a running clock. Oklahoma Baptist would see out the final two minutes of the game with a stout defensive display to complete the rout.

"We had some great individual performances today," said OBU head coach Jordan Beech. "That being said, I really have to give it up to the team as a whole. We finally had a full week of practice, and the ladies worked incredibly hard to learn some new concepts that allowed our entire team to click on a new level. It was a great team performance!"

While Martin did the heavy lifting with nine goals, Ingrim was no slouch, accounting for a career-high six goals herself. Dowell scored two goals, while Gilbert and Callahan each had one.

Gilbert tied to school single-game record for assists in a game with three, a record she set herself on March 17, 2015 against Asbury (Ky.). Jefferson recorded her first point of the season on her assist to Ingrim, while Callahan, Dowell and Martin also each had one helper.

The Lady Bison won the draw control battle 14-12, paced by Ingrim who set a new career-high with seven draw controls.

Sabrina Attaway posted eight saves and a .471 save percentage in the victory. She is just one win shy of reaching 20 for her career.

The Lady Bison return home to the OBU Lacrosse Complex next Saturday, April 9th for Senior Night against Benedictine College. First draw is set for 6 p.m., and OBU's three graduating seniors: Sabrina Attaway, Kari Callahan and Emily Joslin, will be honored prior to the game.
