Lady Bison Falter on Senior Day

Box Score (html)

SHAWNEE, Okla. – It was not a happy homecoming for the Lady Bison on Saturday night, playing in front of a home crowd for the first time since February. Oklahoma Baptist suffered an 11-10 setback to visiting Benedictine College on Senior Night.

A quick start for OBU gave the Lady Bison a 2-0 lead inside the first 1:12 of the game through goals by Allison Ingrim and Alexis Martin. The Ravens would battle back to draw level with over the next minute and a half before Martin helped Oklahoma Baptist regain their advantage. OBU's offense went stagnant over the next 15 minutes, allowing a 4-0 run. Ingrim and Martin rallied the team with two goals apiece to break up the run and retake a lead at 7-6, but BC's Elizabeth Darrow scored an opportunistic goal with three seconds on the board to make it even going into the break.

Martin got the scoring started in the second half, but two goals from a free-position attempt and a man-up opportunity again gave the Ravens the ball. Savannah Tompkins converted a free-position attempt of her own to draw the Lady Bison level once more, but two goals over the next seven minutes of play gave Benedictine a two goal lead. Martin was able to score unassisted with 4:44 remaining, and had a chance to level the score in the dying embers of the game, but her shot unfortunately hit the Ravens goalie in the foot.

"The thing that stood out to me today were the number of turnovers we committed," said OBU head coach Jordan Beech. "Ball security has been a struggle the whole season. In the end, it hurt us today. Luckily, we have one game left, so we should be able to end the season on the right foot."

To that end, Oklahoma Baptist committed 33 turnovers, the second most in a single game in program history. The Lady Bison have suffered a total of 269 turnovers this season.

Martin led the way for the offense, picking up where she left off last week. She recorded game highs in both goals (6) and points (7). Ingrim notched four points off a second consecutive hat trick and an assist, while Tompkins recorded her third career goal as a defender and first career assist.

Defensively, OBU scooped up 44 ground balls, the sixth most in a single game by a Lady Bison squad, and caused 21 turnovers, tied for fourth most in a single game. Ingrim had a game-best eight ground balls, while Tompkins and Martin each had seven. Kari Callahan and Briana Gray both turned in career bests in the category as well with five ground balls each. Ingrim turned in a career performance with eight successful checks, the second-most by an individual player in a single game.

Sabrina Attaway enjoyed a stellar night in goal, and is unlucky to have not earned her 20th career win. The senior netminder posted a .476 save percentage with 10 saves versus 11 goals against. It was her third game with saves in the double figures, and the second time she's achieved the feat in her last three contests.

Oklahoma Baptist closes out the 2016 season next Saturday, April 16th with a visit from Missouri Valley College. First draw is slated for 10 a.m.
