SHAWNEE, Okla. – Due to injury concerns on the part of Missouri Valley College, Oklahoma Baptist's next schedule opponent, the final game of the 2016 Lady Bison Lacrosse season has been cancelled. The two teams are now scheduled to meet in February of 2017.
"It's a shame to end the season in such an anticlimactic fashion," said OBU head coach
Jordan Beech about the cancellation. "At the end of the day, however, student-athlete safety is of primary concern. We'll look forward to our early season meeting with the Vikings next year."
Oklahoma Baptist concludes their first season under Beech with a 4-7 record. The 2016 edition of the squad finished with 139 points (107g, 32a), the second-most points in program history. It is the second straight season OBU has eclipsed the 100-goal plateau. The Lady Bison also set a new program record for free-position goals with 20 to their credit.
Defensively, the 2016 squad produced 11.18 caused turnovers per game, the top mark in the program's short history. It is also the third season in a row that the Lady Bison have scooped up more than 200 ground balls, collecting a total of 269.
Oklahoma Baptist now turns its sights to the offseason in preparation of their first year as associate members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2017.
