ALVA – Oklahoma Baptist split two games at Northwestern Oklahoma State Saturday, losing the first 7-4 before finishing the day with a 5-1 win.
McKenzie Jones (2-8) took the loss in the opener, allowing seven runs – four earned – over 4.2 innings.
The Lady Bison broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly by Caitlin Hall, but the Rangers scored four in the bottom of the fourth, including a two-run double by Taylor Watham. Peyton Garrett added a two-run triple as part of NWOSU's three-run fifth.
OBU scored three in the sixth on RBI singles by Haylee Zimmerman and Hannah Morris, along with a run-scoring error.
OBU had six hits, including two by Shalee Cordell.
Madison Vaughan got OBU on the scoreboard in the first inning of the second game with an RBI double but the Rangers tied it 1-1 on a Jordan Haya RBI single in the bottom of the first.
That was the last punch Northwestern could mount against Bailee Saye (3-2) who struck out three in the four-hit complete game.
OBU scored three in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Jill Shipman, an RBI double by Cordell and an RBI single by Vaughan.
Kasey Maddox homered in the sixth for the final 5-1 margin.
OBU had eight hits, including two each by Vaughan and Morris.
Now 7-16 overall and 5-11 in the Great American Conference, the Lady Bison wrap up their series in Alva with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday.
