Bronchos Spoil Softball Opener

Oklahoma Baptist suffered through four errors that produced seven unearned runs as the Lady Bison opened the season with an 8-2 loss to Central Oklahoma Tuesday.

UCO scored four runs – three of them unearned – in the top of the first, using a sacrifice fly by Morgan Heard, two OBU errors and a three-run home run by Halley Randolph.

The Bronchos used an OBU error to keep the fourth inning going and Lexi Watson hit a three-run home run and Ashton Smith added an RBI single.

Harlee Griffis tripled to lead off the fourth inning for OBU and Shalee Cordell followed with a two-run home run into the wind to spoil Jessi Walker's shutout.

Cordell then turned in a web gem in the fifth, taking a hit away from JoBi Heath with a diving catch in centerfield, then doubling former teammate Carrie Abrams off at second base.

McKenzie Jones allowed one earned run in four innings of work and took the loss. Amanda Peterson threw three scoreless innings in relief.

Now 0-1, the Lady Bison host Benedictine in a 2 p.m. doubleheader, Friday.
