Lady Bison Split with Blossoms Again

SHAWNEE – Day two of the Oklahoma Baptist softball series with Arkansas-Monticello was much like the first day with OBU winning by a strong margin in the opener only to lose the nightcap in extra innings.

Saturday saw OBU win the opener 9-3 before falling 9-7 in 11 innings.

Arkansas-Monticello broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the opener with a three-run home run by Kali Bolter.

The Lady Bison answered with two three-run home runs of their own in the second inning when Shalee Cordell sent one over the right field wall and, three batters later, when Caitlin Hall ripped one over the left field fence.

OBU tacked on two more on a two-run home run by Madison Vaughan to make it 8-3.

Hannah Morris singled in a run in the fifth for the final margin.

OBU had nine hits in the game, getting two each from Cordell and Vaughan.

Bailee Saye (2-1) went the distance for the win, allowing six hits over seven innings.

The Cotton Blossoms took a 2-0 lead in the second game with RBI singles by Kali Phia in the first inning and Aubree Head in the second.

OBU went ahead 4-2 in the home half of the second inning on an RBI single by Kasey Maddox, and RBI walk by Cordell and a two-run error.

The Blossoms scored one in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Korie Parker and added two in the fifth on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Ashton Currey for a 5-4 UAM lead.

OBU got the lead right back in the fifth on a home run by Morris and an RBI single by Jill Shipman.

The Blossoms scored twice in the sixth for a 7-6 lead but Vaughan got an RBI single in the sixth.

Amanda Peterson (1-2) pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless relief before giving up a two-run home run to Currey in the top of the 11th.

OBU had runners on base to lead off every inning since the sixth but could not push a run across, stranding 17 runners for the game. That streak ended in the 11th when Paisley Pratt held OBU tow a two-out single by Harlee Griffis.

OBU had 14 hits in the loss, including three each by Kasey Jo Burgess and Vaughan, along with two apiece by Griffis, Maddox and Shipman.

Now 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the GAC, the Lady Bison host Harding in a Friday-Saturday four-game series next week, starting with a 3 p.m. doubleheader Friday.
