Oklahoma Baptist got seven strong innings from Chad Bennett and a two-inning save from Trevor Ezell for a 3-2 win over Oklahoma Christian at Bison Field Tuesday.
Bennett found the strike zone repeatedly with his curve ball and fanned four batters, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over his seven innings. Ezell allowed one hit and one walk in his two innings and picked up his second save of the season.
OBU scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Brandon Cuddy and took a 3-0 lead in the fourth with an RBI single by Hunter Heath and a sacrifice fly by Cody Ziegler.
Zac Cobble made it 3-2 with a two-run, two-out single in the fifth, but Ziegler threw out Cobble trying to steal second to end the rally.
The Eagles got the potential tying run to second with one out in the top of the ninth but Bison shortstop Dustyn Cook ranged to his left and snared a line drive and turned in an unassisted double play to end the game.
The Bison had four hits in the game and neither team had a hit louder than a single. Cook, Cuddy, Heath and Joseph Moran had the Bison hits.
Now 7-1, OBU hosts its first ever Great American Conference games this weekend when Southern Arkansas visits Ford Park. The teams start the three-game set with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday, followed by a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
