Lady Bison Quiet Savage Storm

DURANT – Lexi Williams scored six points and came up with two points in the fourth quarter to spark Oklahoma Baptist to a 66-61 win at Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday in the Great American Conference.

Williams finished with a career-high 16 points to pace a quartet of double-digit Lady Bison scorers.

"They were defending McKenzie (Cooper) pretty hard so Cam (Graves) and I knew we needed to step up," said Williams. "We finally recognized they were having a hard time stopping our drives. We started attacking and made them pay."

Graves had a big night for the Bison, getting 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Arielle Cooper fouled out with 13 points and a career-best four steals. McKenzie Cooper added 11 points. Kiara Moore had nine points, three assists and three steals.

OBU trailed 50-48 heading into the fourth quarter but Moore scored a layup and Arielle Cooper added a jumper at the 6:49 mark to give the Lady Bison their first lead since the 3:47 mark of the second quarter.

Williams went on a personal 6-4 run with three baskets in the paint to give OBU the lead for good, 58-57, with 4:43 left in the game. The Savage Storm went one of four from the field and turned the ball over three times from there.

Defense was a big key for the Lady Bison, especially in the second half.

"We did a good job defensively tonight," said Lady Bison Coach Casi Bays. "Our defense the last three minutes of the game was very good and we finally found our offensive rhythm. "

SOSU shot 61 percent in the first half and just 35 percent in the second.

The Lady Bison led 21-14 after the first quarter, forcing 11 turnovers – four on steals by Arielle Cooper.

The Savage Storm reversed their fortunes in the second quarter, leading by as many as seven points before OBU closed the half on a 6-0 run with four points from Lexi Williams to make it a 39-38 Savage Storm lead at the half.

Great American Conference three-point record-holder Olivia Potter flung in three three-pointers in as many attempts on her way to a 14-point first-half total. Potter, however, was done scoring from the arch and finished with 16 points.

Arielle Cooper countered with 11 for the Lady Bison in the first half.

The Lady Bison finish the weekend with a 1 p.m. tip Saturday at East Central.
