Ouachita Baptist came out of the second half on fire and scored a 78-58 over Oklahoma Baptist Thursday in both teams' Great American Conference men's basketball opener.
Ouachita used a late second-quarter surge to take a 28-23 halftime lead. The Tigers shot 86 percent from the field over the first eight minutes of the second half and bulked the lead up to 63-38 with nine minutes left in the game.
"Patience is going to be the key," said OBU Coach Quinn Wooldridge. "It's a new team, new coaches, new league. Everything is new."
Steven Green led the Bison with 22 points and nine rebounds, with Vladimir Nemcok getting 10 points. Jansen Hight had three steals.
Lakee Westbrook ad 20 points to lead the Tigers.
Now 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the GAC, the Bison host Henderson State at 3 p.m., Saturday. The Reddies lost their GAC opener Thursday at Southern Nazarene, falling 83-70.
