WEATHERFORD – Oklahoma Baptist captured a halftime lead, but the Lady Bison were unable to hold off top-ranked Emporia State, falling 80-63 in the SWOSU Classic Saturday afternoon.
After an excellent first half at both ends of the court, OBU took a 37-36 lead into intermission. The Lady Bison shot 51.9 percent as a team while limiting the Lady Hornets to 39.4 percent shooting from the field, including just a 1-for-12 performance from behind the three-point arc.
ESU's Kelly Moten scored 14 of her game-high 25 points in the third quarter, helping the Lady Hornets outscore the Lady Bison 25-15 in the period. Emporia State maintained a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Katy Custer had a big game for the Lady Bison, finishing with 19 points off the bench to lead the team. Foul trouble and turnovers hindered OBU, as ESU was able to score 26 points from 25 Lady Bison giveaways.
Arielle Cooper fouled out for the second straight game after scoring 11 points, and four other Lady Bison picked up at least three fouls.
Tasha Edge pulled down 10 rebounds,
Cameerah Graves dished out six assists, and
McKenzie Cooper added 13 points and three assists for OBU.
OBU, now 0-2, will play their inaugural Great American Conference game when they host Ouachita Baptist at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, in the home opener at the Noble Complex.
