Lady Bison Rip SNU, 3-1

Oklahoma Baptist started off rivalry weekend with a 3-1 win over Southern Nazarene Thursday night in the Noble Complex.

OBU finished the regular season and celebrated Senior Night with a 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-9 victory.


Carey Strong and Kynnedy Myers recorded double-doubles on the evening with Strong getting a team-best 11 kills to go with 17 digs. Myers added 39 assists and 16 digs. Priscila Mendes and Nicole Fleitman contributed 10 kills apiece with Fleitman and Cat Roth sharing the blocks lead with five each.

Kaitlyn Lucy led the team with 24 digs with Kate Decker adding 13.

It was the last match in the Mabee Arena for OBU seniors Strong, Mendes, Roth and Lucy.

The first set was a game of runs as OBU scored seven consecutive points to take an 9-3 lead before SNU battled back with a 7-0 run of its own to tie the score at 11-11.

With the score knotted at 21, Mendes got a kill and Myers and Fleitman got a shared block for a 23-21 lead. Fleitman ended the set with a kill.

SNU rallied from down 19-14 to tie the second set at 20-20, but the Lady Bison got a pair of kills by Myers to set the Bison up for the win.

Southern Nazarene led the third set by as much as 19-14. OBU rallied to within 22-21 but couldn't get the lead.

The Lady Bison restored order to the OBU universe in the fourth set, dominating from start to finish.

Two kills by Decker helped OBU to a 6-1 lead and after SNU battled back to an 8-6 margin, OBU ran away with a 7-0 run fueled by two Myers aces.

The Crimson Storm made it a 16-8 game before the Lady Bison ended it with an authoritative 9-1 run.

With the win, OBU improved to 19-11 overall and finishes second in the Great American Conference at 14-2, three games ahead of third-place SNU.

The Lady Bison head to postseason in the National Christian College Athletic Association's Central Region Tournament in Bartlesville Nov. 20-21.
