Bo Overton was hired as the head women's basketball coach at Oklahoma Baptist prior to the 2020-21 campaign and has led the Bison to four Great American Conference Tournament bids in his first six seasons at the helm. He led OBU to a 20-9 record in his fifth season (2024-25), marking the first 20-win season for the Bison since back-to-back 20-win campaigns in 2014-15 and 2013-14.

During his time on Bison Hill, Overton has coached seven All-GAC performers, including the 2022-23 GAC Freshman of the Year (Jaedyn Getman). The Bison have also earned a total of 11 CSC Academic All-District honors since Overton arrived.

He came to OBU after an incredibly successful stint as the head coach at Oklahoma City University, where he amassed a 145-24 (.858) record and won four-straight Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season titles. His 2016-17 squad finished 34-2 and won the NAIA Division I national title, while the 2018-19 team went 33-5 and finished as the national runner-up.

Overton won 30 or more games three times at OCU and was a two-time SAC Coach of the Year. He also won NAIA National Coach of the Year honors during the Stars national title run in 2016-17, when OCU closed out the season on a 20-game winning streak.

He coached four SAC Player of the Year selections, two SAC Freshmen of the Year, two SAC Newcomers of the Year, and one SAC Defensive Player of the Year at Oklahoma City University.

He also served as the head coach at NCAA DI member Kansas City (formerly UMKC) from 2004-06 before leaving the college ranks to be the head coach of the WNBA's Chicago Sky. During his lone season with the Sky, Overton coached Armintie Price to WNBA Rookie of the Year honors.

He was also the team's general manager during his time in Chicago.

In addition to the Chicago Sky, Overton has also been the head coach for teams in the Russian Premie League and Chinese Women's Basketball Association. He was an assistant coach for the Chinese National Team for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as China advanced to the quarterfinals and a sixth-place finish.

Overton also spent time as an assistant coach with the Bahamas National Team.

He spent six seasons on the bench as an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma, his alma mater, where he helped guide the Sooners to a national runner-up finish in the 2002 NCAA Tournament.

During his time at OU, Overton was part of a program that went to five-straight NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2000 and 2001. The Sooners also captured three Big 12 regular-season and two conference tournament titles with Overton on staff.

His coaching resume also includes time on the men's side at Louisiana Tech, Texas State, Oral Roberts, Murray State Community College, and the Pensacola Tornados.

A 1983 graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Overton finished his career with 826 points, 517 assists, and 251 rebounds. He led the Big Eight conference in assists during the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons and still ranks among the top-10 in several statistical categories at OU.

Overton was a 10th-round pick of the Phoenix Suns in the 1983 NBA Draft, becoming the 25th Sooner ever selected in the NBA Draft.
