Leon Boyd joined the Oklahoma Baptist track and field programs in 2023, specializing in jumps. Since his arrival, OBU jump athletes have earned eight First-Team and three Second -eam All-America honors, highlighted by Jamora Horace becoming the women's program's first NCAA individual national champion with her victory in the high jump at the 2026 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Horace set a school record of 1.87m (6-1.5) to earn the title. Boyd has also coached athletes to 13 All-GAC honors and three individual conference championships. He has also helped guide the men's and women's programs to three-straight appearances at the NCAA Division II Indoor and Outdoor Championships

He has helped guide the Bison women to two Great American Conference Outdoor Championships and a runner-up finish during his tenure. On the men's side, Boyd has contributed to three consecutive runner-up finishes at the GAC Outdoor Championships.

Boyd came to Oklahoma Baptist after spending two seasons at Greenville University coaching horizontal and vertical jump athletes, helping the Panthers capture four SLIAC Indoor Conference championships across the men's and women's programs.

Boyd saw one of his multi-event athletes qualify for both the NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 2022, while three athletes qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. His qualifiers included competitors in the women's heptathlon, women's long jump and men's high jump. During his time at Greenville, Boyd helped the men's and women's programs earn three consecutive team appearances at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Prior to his stop at Greenville, Boyd served as an assistant coach at Keiser University during the 2020-21 season. Specializing in jumps, Boyd guided two male athletes to Sun Conference championships in the long jump and triple jump. He also saw one of his athletes take home the national championship in the men's heptathlon at the 2022 NAIA Indoor Championships.

Boyd graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Justice Administration. He also spent one season as a student assistant coach under current OBU head coach Brian Whitlock.

Boyd assembled an outstanding competitive résumé at Wayland Baptist while specializing in the jumps. He was a an NAIA national champion in the triple jump and earned seven All-America honors. His career-best marks were 7.65m (25-1¼) in the long jump and 15.61m (51-2¾) in the triple jump. Following the 2018 season, Boyd was named the South Central Region Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Before competing at Wayland Baptist, Boyd began his collegiate career at Barton Community College. He was the Region VI/KJCCC Indoor Conference champion in the triple jump and a four-time All-American.

A native of Orlando, FL, Boyd graduated from Maynard Evans High School in 2014. He capped his prep career by winning the 2014 FHSAA Class 4A state championships in both the long jump and triple jump. Boyd and his wife, Kesley, have one child, Noel.
