Frezer Legesse

Frezer Legesse joined the OBU staff in 2020 following a professional running career where he competed at multiple U.S Track and Field Championships and was a semifinalist at the 2016 U.S Olympic Trials. He serves as the head men's and women's cross country coach and assistant track and field coach for the Bison.

Legesse's coaching career began at Oklahoma Christian University where he helped the Eagles win their first Heartland Conference cross country title as an assistant coach. In the past two years, he has been part of the Oklahoma City University coaching staff where he helped lead the Stars to back-to-back NAIA Cross Country championships.  

In his two years as head cross country and track and field coach at Mount Saint Mary high school, his team collected a cross country team state championship title, state runner-up and four individual track state championship titles. 

Legesse graduated from the University of Oklahoma where he was an NCAA Division I All-American, Big 12 champion and eight-time First Team All-Conference. He continued his career as a professional runner representing Under Armour.

He was the 370th American to break the four-minute mile barrier, running 3:58.95, and continued to lower his personal best to 3:54.8 as a professional runner.  

Legesse and his wife, Yodit, have two children, Soliana and Ellana.
