EDMOND, Okla. — A dominant performance in the circle and a late offensive surge propelled Oklahoma Baptist to a 7–1 win over Fort Lewis on Thursday morning, keeping the Bison unbeaten at 6–0.
The game remained scoreless through three innings as
Jaycee Shaffer set the tone early, striking out eight of the first nine batters she faced. Fort Lewis broke through in the fourth on an unearned run following a passed ball, briefly taking a 1–0 lead.
Oklahoma Baptist answered immediately in the bottom half. After
Nichelle Marshall doubled,
Alexah Reyes pinch ran and eventually stole home on a throwing error, evening the score at 1–1.
The Bison took control in the fifth.
Greenlee Wells reached on an error, and
Ally Ryan followed with a two-run home run to right-center to give OBU a 3–1 advantage.
Oklahoma Baptist put the game away in the sixth, erupting for four runs on four hits.
Jessi Hull sparked the inning with a single, and
Kaley Cook delivered the decisive blow — a three-run triple to right-center. Wells capped the scoring with an RBI double to center, extending the lead to 7–1.
Shaffer was outstanding in the circle, going the distance and allowing just two hits while striking out 15 in a complete-game effort. She walked two and did not allow an earned run.
Cook led the Bison offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI, while Wells went 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a walk. Ryan added two RBI with her home run, and
Haley Hacker chipped in two hits as OBU finished with nine hits on the day.
Oklahoma Baptist scored all seven of its runs from the fourth inning on, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to secure the victory.
