Wells' Late Blast Lifts Bison Past Comets

MANSFIELD, Texas — Oklahoma Baptist outlasted UT Dallas in a back-and-forth offensive battle, pulling away with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure a 12–11 victory Friday afternoon at the Fields at Station.

The Bison (2–0) jumped out early, scoring once in the first inning before erupting for six runs in the second to take a 7–1 lead. UT Dallas chipped away throughout the middle innings, eventually knotting the score at 9–9 after seven frames.

With the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth, Kaylee Davis was placed on second to start the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved her to third, Kaley Cook reached on a bunt single and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Greenlee Wells delivered the decisive blow moments later, launching a three-run home run to center field to give the Bison a 12–9 advantage.

UT Dallas answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but Jaycee Shaffer shut the door to earn her second win of the season.

Wells finished with a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs, including a double and the go-ahead three-run homer. Abby Laskowski added two home runs and three RBIs, while Cook went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple, two stolen bases, and a walk.

Oklahoma Baptist totaled 15 hits on the afternoon, with six different players recording multi-hit games.
In the circle, four Bison pitchers combined to strike out 13 batters. Shaffer tossed the final two innings, allowing two runs while striking out three to seal the win.
