Bison, No. 18 Angelo State Play to 1-1 Draw

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist and Angelo State battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at the LeGrand Soccer Complex, with both teams netting second-half goals in a tightly contested matchup.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes that saw limited offensive chances, Angelo State broke through in the 55th minute. Wrilyn Shippey capitalized on a setup from Emily Thames, slotting home the match's opening goal to give the Rambelles a 1-0 advantage.

The Bison responded with growing pressure, registering 10 of their 11 shots in the second half.

Their persistence paid off in the 69th minute when midfielder Hali White found the back of the net, leveling the match at 1-1. White finished with two shots, including the equalizer, while Camden Ocheskey proved a constant threat with four attempts and two on target.

Ashley Bell, Annabelle Joski and Tiare Hermosilla also registered on-target attempts for OBU.

Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper Jolee King kept the Bison within reach, recording two saves, including a key stop in the closing minutes to preserve the draw. Across the pitch, Angelo State's Melyna Martinez was equally steady, turning away four shots as OBU surged late.

Angelo State finished with a narrow 12-11 edge in shots, while fouls were plentiful, with the Rambelles committing 12 to Oklahoma Baptist's nine. The physical play came to a head in the 81st minute when ASU's Carley Martinez was issued the lone yellow card of the contest.

OBU will return to the pitch on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. when it hosts Northeastern State.
