SHAWNEE – Northwestern Oklahoma State extended its unbeaten streak (6-0-1, 1-0-0 GAC) with a 2–1 road victory over Oklahoma Baptist (0-4-3, 0-1-0 GAC) on Wednesday at the OBU Soccer Complex.
The Rangers wasted little time establishing momentum, striking in the 11th minute when Luana San Miguel finished off a pass from the top of the 18 from Jenna Mills to give the visitors a 1–0 lead.
Despite being outshot 7–2 in the opening half, Northwestern held firm defensively, with goalkeeper Taylor Annen turning away four attempts to preserve the advantage going into halftime. One of those saves, in the 44th minute, came after an
Ashley Bell corner kick was headed perfectly by
Hope White. However, NWOSU's goalie dove near the left post for the save.
In the second stanza, Eryn Warren delivered what proved to be the decisive goal. Along the left side of the 18, she lofted what appeared to be a cross near the Bison's goal mouth. A few seconds later, the ball found the right corner of the net. That pushed the score to 2-0 in the 67th minute.
The Bison battled throughout the night, creating 22 shots compared to just five for Northwestern. The Bison finally broke through in the 81st minute when
Lex Williamson buried a feed from
Addison Gray to pull the hosts within one. The late surge included multiple corner kicks and shots in the closing minutes, but Annen stood tall, finishing with six saves to secure the win.
Furthermore, on multiple occasions throughout the competition, the Bison had one-on-one chances against Annen but could not convert.
Jolee King and
Jalen Cramer split time in goal for OBU, combining for two saves while conceding twice. Forward
Sam Sheffield led the Bison attack with five shots, while
Annabelle Joski and Gray also pressured the defense.
OBU will return to action on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Southwestern Oklahoma State.
