Pioneers’ Offense Flashes in Victory over OBU

SHAWNEE -- Texas Woman's University showcased its offensive depth in a commanding 6-1 road victory over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at the OBU Soccer Complex.

The Pioneers (4-0-0) wasted little time setting the tone, striking just seven minutes in when Celeste Beltran buried the opening goal. Bri Luna doubled the advantage four minutes later before Jaida Arizmendi, assisted by Giselle Gutierrez, made it 3-0 in the 17th minute. TWU then capitalized on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute, with Bella Alfaro converting to give the visitors a 4-0 cushion.

Oklahoma Baptist (0-3-1) found a response in the 39th minute as Hope White finished off a feed from Ajae Belliston to cut the deficit to 4-1 heading into halftime. That was White's first career goal.

There was just one other on-target attempt for the green and gold, delivered by freshman Maya Thornburg in the 14th minute.

The Pioneers maintained their dominance after the halftime break. In the 74th and 82nd minutes, the visitors struck twice for the final margin.

TWU's attack proved relentless, tallying 17 shots with eight on goal, while limiting the Bison to six total attempts. Goalkeeper Amanda Farris needed just one save in the victory, as her backline held firm throughout.

Texas Woman's improved to 4-0 while the Bison fell to 0-3-1. On Wednesday, the Bison visit Missouri Southern in Joplin at 6 p.m.
