Savage Storm Stymies Bison’s Attack

DURANT – Southeastern Oklahoma State (1-2) handed Oklahoma Baptist (0-3) a 29-10 defeat on Saturday in Great American Conference play at Paul Laird Field.

The SE defense was key, holding the Bison scoreless in the second half with just 34 total yards of offense.

Saturday night started with SE's DJ Brown scoring a four-yard touchdown run in the first. Oklahoma Baptist responded with a field goal by Patrick Maxwell but struggled to build momentum offensively. Kenny Rosenthal's 13-yard touchdown run gave the Bison a brief 10-7 lead in the second quarter.

After OBU's lone touchdown, the hosts reclaimed the lead with a four-yard rushing score by Donovan Shannon and maintained control throughout the second half. A key moment came when Southeastern's Michael Hookfin recovered a lateral in the third. Rosenthal threw behind the line of scrimmage, and watched as Hookfin raced to the right corner, falling on the ball in the endzone. That pushed the lead for Southeastern to 21-10.

Dylan Cox added two field goals in the second half to extend the advantage.

Defensively, Southeastern stifled Oklahoma Baptist's offense, limiting them to 157 total yards. The Savage Storm's ground game was dominant, racking up 224 rushing yards, led by Brown's 116 yards on 17 carries.

Oklahoma Baptist struggled to establish offensive rhythm, as it did not covert any of its 10 third-down attempts.  Plus, the Bison rushed for 56 yards.

Defensively, Brandon Spencer II recorded an interception and notched 13 tackles, a team-high. Plus, Brayden Johnson added 10 stops while Scooter Baker recorded an interception.

Next week, the Bison host East Central at 6 p.m. sponsored by Vision Bank.
