WEATHERFORD, Okla. – OBU racked up 27 runs across two games to complete their series sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in Weatherford.
Oklahoma Baptist (28-10, 20-2 GAC) defeated the Bulldogs 14-4 in the first game before run-ruling SWOSU (12-26, 8-15 GAC) 13-1 in the finale.
The Bison outscored Southwestern 35-5 this weekend, the most runs recorded in a series all season.
GAME ONE
OBU compiled 30 hits today, including 16 in the opener. The offense erupted for four runs in the first frame, courtesy of an Emily Adler single and a Morgan Max three-run homer.
The success carried into the second inning when Adler charted her second RBI, bringing across Abby Laskowski for a 5-0 cushion.
Pitcher Maggie Place and company kept the opposition at bay until SWOSU plated their first score of the entire series in the fourth inning. Oklahoma Baptist punched back at the top of the fifth on an Ally Ryan home run to push the green and gold's score to six.
However, the Bulldogs responded. SWOSU added three to their scoresheet, but that'd be the extent of their good fortune as the Bison tacked on eight more runs to settle the triumph.
Reese and Ryan posted 3-for-3 outings at the plate, while Adler and Max charted two hits. Ryan accounted for a team-high in RBI (4) on the back of two home runs, the second time she has accomplished the feat this season.
Max finished with three RBI, while Adler and Campos brought across a couple of runners.
Place sat down four Bulldogs and allowed three earned runs in five innings before being relieved. Max stepped into the circle and struck out three without allowing a run.
GAME TWO
The Bison sent their opponent home early for the second time in the series after recording 14 hits, a tie for their second-best output this season.
OBU opened the contest with five runs, which included hits from Greene, Clark, and Reese. SWOSU retaliated with a run at the bottom of the inaugural frame, but their offense would disappear afterward.
The Bison added back-to-back four-run innings in the fourth and fifth to signify the run-rule.
Reese led the lineup with another three-hit performance, while three others accounted for two hits. Of those three, Greene and Kennedy Clark registered three RBI.
Ryan also went yard for the fourth time this weekend, which boosted her season total to 15. The action broke the program's DII record for home runs. The previous mark (14) was set in 2018 by Dani Davis.
Kayleigh Jones earned win No. 15 this year after striking out six and allowing one earned run. Olivia Cummings also stepped into the circle and gave up one hit and one complete inning.
