Bison Capture Second Straight GAC Regular Season Championship

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist softball repeated as Great American Conference regular season champions after defeating Henderson State 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Bison Softball Park.

A year removed from claiming the first title in program history, the Bison repeated with a GAC-leading record of 27-3 and an overall mark of 37-11. OBU out-ran the Reddies (20-28, 14-15 GAC) 25-2 in the series, led by back-to-back run-rule wins on Friday.

OBU jumped out to a significant lead after a second inning that featured five runs off two hits. Adi Reese knocked a grand slam over left center in her final bow in Shawnee before Sammie Greene went yard in the next at-bat.

Pitcher Kayleigh Jones kept the Reddies' bats silent early, surrendering just two hits before the fifth frame when HSU's Jodi De Hart sent a two-run shot to condense the deficit.

However, the feat meant nothing as an Emily Adler single to right field widened the gap to 6-2.

Jones fanned three out of the six batters she faced the rest of the way, capped by a fitting struck-out swinging in her final appearance on Bison Hill.

The most decorated pitcher in program history made her exit with a 10-strikeout performance, her 11th of the season. She improved her season record to 19-4.

Reese led the lineup with two hits, two runs scored, and four RBI, while Greene also charted a couple of connections.
