SHAWNEE - Oklahoma Baptist returned to Bison Softball Park on Saturday to begin its three-game GAC series against Southeastern Oklahoma State. Fans and players watched as
Kayleigh Jones and the OBU defense retired the first 17 Savage Storm batters on their way to winning 7-0. It was their seventh-straight victory.
Â
The great defense by OBU featured 11 Jones strikeouts, nine putouts by catcher
Samantha Campos and four by first baseman
Kennedy Clark. Plus,
Adi Reese, OBU's second baseman, had one putout and three assists. Southeastern's only time reaching base came with two out in the sixth when Bailey Beard hit a bloop single to right.
Â
Offensively, the Bison were benefitted early by the middle of their lineup. In the bottom of the second,
Morgan Max obtained a double, setting the Bison up for a scoring play. Reese then followed with a double of her own to left center scoring her teammate. Â The fifth-year infielder now leads the team with six doubles.
Â
Rounding out the bottom of the 2nd,
Cassidy Morrow connected with a 4-3 groundout to score Reese, extending OBU's lead to 2-0. Â
Â
Then in the home-half of the fourth, after another three-up, three-down frame by the green and gold's defense, the Bison secured two more runs on four hits.
Â
Ally Ryan and Reece each singled before Clark connected with a one-out RBI double to the left-field fence. That boosted the score to 3-0 as Ryan crossed home. Morrow then provided another run-scoring hit as her single through the left side plating Reese. Â
Â
In the 5th, Max connected to right field allowing
Sammie Greene to score run number five before
Shelby Warden boosted the score to 6-0 with another run-scoring single. That allowed
Emily Adler to score.
Â
Capping off OBU's runs was a solo bomb by Greene, her first, in the sixth.
Â
By game's end, Ryan and Reese each had two hits while a total of six Bison drove in runs. Tomorrow at 1 p.m., the two teams will meet again for a doubleheader.
