SHAWNEE – A throwing error from Arkansas Monticello's shortstop gave Sydney Adler enough time to cross home plate for the game-winning run as Oklahoma Baptist escaped UAM 2-1 in extras on Friday afternoon.
A Hailey Stanford missile to shortstop prompted a difficult throw that forced Arkansas Monticello's (12-16, 4-8 GAC) first baseman off the bag, allowing Stanford to reach safely and S. Adler in for the walk-off victory.
OBU improved its record to 17-6 and a perfect 11-0 in Great American Conference action. It was their 12th consecutive win.
The Blossoms made pitcher Kayleigh Jones work overtime in her 102nd career start. Jones allowed just three hits and struck out 13 in a complete 9.0 innings of work to boost her season record to 9-2.
It was her sixth double-figure strikeout performance of the year.
Oklahoma Baptist registered five hits, including two from Emily Adler. She posted a team-best 2-for-3 outing.
Additionally, the Bison recorded a season-high in stolen bags (5).
A Morgan Max ground-out scored Sammie Greene the series' inaugural run after Jones retired the side 1-2-3 at the top of the first inning.
In the third, the Blossoms responded with a home run from Courtnee Sensibaugh to knot the contest at one-all.
Excellent defense down the stretch left the scoreboard silent and ushered extra frames.
The Bison placed one on base in the eighth, courtesy of an E. Adler single down the left field line, but it was to no avail as UAM forced two pop-ups to keep the inning scoreless.
Then, in OBU's next at-bat, Stanford and S. Adler brought the win home.
