Jones Earns 67th Career Win, Bison Split Final Day in OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist (2-5) claimed a 5-3 win over No. 19 Rogers State (7-3) before falling 4-3 to No. 16 Oklahoma Christian (4-4) in Saturday's OC/UCO Invitational nightcap at Tom Heath Field.

GAME ONE VERSUS ROGERS STATE

In the 32nd all-time meeting with Rogers State, pitcher Kayleigh Jones steered OBU to victory after a 13-strikeout performance, improving her season record to 2-1. It was the 67th win of her career on Bison Hill.

Jones gave up six hits and walked two in a complete game of work.

Oklahoma Baptist recorded season highs in runs scored (5) and hits (6), including a team-best of two hits from Sammie Greene

Greene was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Morgan Max and Cassidy Morrow brought in two runs, while Ally Ryan recorded one RBI. Emily Adler also recorded a connection and scored twice.

Max kick-started OBU in the inaugural frame, scoring Greene on a sacrifice fly before Ryan singled to bring around Adler, who reached on a double. Then, a Morrow double to right center plated Ryan to push Oklahoma Baptist ahead 3-0.

It was not until the fifth inning that RSU retaliated, compiling three runs on four hits to tie the game.

Jones regained her composure in the pitching lane and struck out two to retire the Hillcats at the bottom of the sixth.

OBU made good of the opportunity in its next at-bat, scoring two runs on walks for the lead. Jones and company kept the score sheet clean at the bottom of the frame to wrap up the victory.

GAME TWO VERSUS OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN

Just like in game one, OBU's bats produced runs early. Morgan Max scored Sammie Greene, and Samantha Campos brought Max across home plate for a quick 2-0 advantage.

Then, OC punched back with a grand slam to go ahead 4-2 at the bottom of the first.

Max's bat would ring true again in the third, scoring Adler on a single, but that'd be the extent of the Bison's good fortune.

Max was 2-for-3 in the batter's box, while Cassidy Morrow, Ayzia Shirey, and Campos added hits. Max and Greene also charted a steal apiece on the base paths.

Maggie Place started in the circle before being relieved by Max after an inning of work. Place surrendered four runs and struck out one. Max twirled 5.0 innings and struck out two while allowing six hits.

NEXT UP

Oklahoma Baptist returns to the OKC metro next week for the UCO/SNU Invitational. They are set to take on six teams, including another clash with Rogers State.
