Greene's Grand Slam Lifts Bison to Run-Rule Victory Over Tigers

SHAWNEE – Sammie Greene's fifth-inning grand slam powered No. 22 Oklahoma Baptist (35-9, 20-5 GAC) to an 11-2 run-rule victory over Ouachita Baptist (11-31, 5-20 GAC) on Friday evening.

The feat, Greene's fifth home run of the season, emptied the bases with two outs on the board to grant OBU its eight-run cushion needed for the walk-off win.

The Bison extended their winning streak to nine, heading into tomorrow's doubleheader with the hopes of a series victory.

Sophomore Greene finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and two scored runs. Greene added two stolen bags, something she has done five other times in her career. Max pushed her hitting streak to five games with a 3-for-3 showing in the box, resulting in two RBIs and a scored run.

Samantha Campos brought in two on her third home run of the season, while Regan Ford recorded two hits and scored a career-best three runs. Ford also stole a base, a part of five OBU steals today.

Right-hander Kayleigh Jones dominated the pitching lane, punching out 11 batters en route to her 25th win of the season. Through 5.0 innings of action, she surrendered two hits and one earned run.

What started as a back-and-forth contest quickly turned as the Bison put two balls into play to score the game's first run in the second frame. The score came on throwing error on Ouachita's catcher that allowed Morgan Max to waltz across home plate.

The Tigers responded with two runs in the next inning, courtesy of a two-out moonshot over left field from Erin Williams.

Riding a momentous wave, OBU tacked on another to tie the contest on a Max RBI single. Then a five-run eruption occurred in the fourth, providing a 7-2 lead.

Campos kicked things off with a two-run blast before Alleyna Rushing scored on another OUA miscue. The last two runs came from the bats of Max and Emily Adler.

As mentioned, Greene sealed the game in the fifth to lead the Bison to a series-opening victory.

Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 12 p.m. inside Bison Softball Park.
