SHAWNEE - Great American Conference Tournament semifinals started on Bison Hill, and Oklahoma Baptist claimed the first victory, winning in double overtime against rival Southwestern Oklahoma State. Freshman
Sophia Ziesemer, who wears the No. 7 jersey, fired the game-winning goal, and moved the Bison into its seventh-straight GAC Tournament Final.
On Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. the Bison will play two-seed Ouachita, who defeated Southern Nazarene, in Shawnee. Earlier this season, OBU defeated Ouachita by 2-0 and 1-0 scores.
At the 106:46 mark of the second extra session, Ziesemer scored on a rebounded shot by fellow freshman
Lex Williamson. That was Ziesemer's third goal this year, all of which have been game-winners.
Well before that goal, junior
Jadynn Daggs and Williamson both made many valiant attempts at scoring, but Bulldogs goalie Terra Rybuck proved difficult to get past. SWOSU's goalie dialed up seven saves in the match.
OBU's offense was very efficient in the first half, outshooting the visitors 8-4. Daggs had a couple of good looks, too, but didn't find nylon.
In the second half, the Bison weren't as crisp and had to defend a few counters from the Bulldogs. They did so with the help of
Asley Baker,
Brae Baker,
Ashley Bell and
Michaela White.
Goalie
Mia Pendleton once again gave OBU a great chance in net, keeping SWOSU from scoring with four saves, including a final save with less than a minute left in the second overtime segment. It was her 19th shutout of her career.
In the overtime sessions, the Bison dominated taking six of the seven attempts.
