SHAWNEE – No. 14-ranked (United Soccer Coaches) West Texas A&M was a bit too much for Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday, winning 5-0 at the OBU Soccer Complex.
WT ran its record to 4-0 while the Bison dipped to 1-4.
After freshman
Krissy Fulton's saved shot from the left side of the box 42 seconds in, the Lady Buffs followed with three goals in the next 16 minutes to seize command.
West Texas's first score came at 3:05 as Maria-Frances Serrant passed right and watched as Maliyah Mendoza shot to the upper left of the goal. A little over seven minutes later, Serrant doubled the visitor's lead as she beat a defender near the left side of the 18 and fired right.
The Bison did come awfully close to pulling within one a few minutes later. Senior
Katie Fowler shot from about 20 yards out to the top crossbar. However, a one-handed leaping save by WT's Reagan Heelan knocked the ball out of bounds.
First-half scoring was completed for the Lady Buffs in the 17th minute as Asha James found nylon.
OBU did have other opportunities on goal the rest of the way.
Olivia Kenas got in the mix in the 36th minute while Fulton and
Kaylee Swaner added a couple more.
By match's end, West Texas had out-shot OBU 17-12. For the Bison though, they held a 7-1 advantage in corners.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is a home date Sept. 10 against No. 3 Dallas Baptist at 6 p.m.
