Bison Trample Tigers in Remarkable Comeback

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. Oklahoma Baptist's Katie Fowler helped spark a three-goal comeback on Thursday against Ouachita Baptist as the Bison rallied for a 5-3 Great American Conference victory at Kluck Field. With the result, the green and gold improved to 2-5 and 1-0 in the GAC while the host Tigers dropped to 4-4 and 1-1 in conference play.

The first 11 minutes of the match consisted of several Bison shots. Attempts were taken by Jadynn Daggs, juniors Kaylee Swaner and Alanna Bloomingdale, and seniors Anna Fulton and Fowler, but none of those found nylon. Two of the shots were saved by Ouachita's goalie Michele Snow.

A little over 22 minutes in, a foul by OBU's Maddison Williams resulted in a penalty kick taken by Jaymee Dotson. That resulted in a goal for the Tigers.

Following this, two more goals were tallied by Tiger sophomores Ashlyn Vana and Ashton Inman. But before the period ended, the Bison were able to play off a foul by Ouachita defender Ashlyn Lynch.

A penalty kick was taken by Fowler at 41:58, who converted to the right side. With this, the scoreboard read a 3-1 Tiger lead at halftime.

The second half was jumpstarted a little over four minutes in by a fiery Bison shot attempt to the upper right from sophomore Olivia Kenas. With Krissy Fulton navigating down the near left sideline, she sent a pass to the right post and watched as Kenas finished it off. That boosted the match score to 3-2.

Less than three minutes later, Fulton delivered another helper, this one the equalizer. At the 53-minute mark, Fulton passed to a streaking Fowler who secured the ball and fired into the upper-right corner past Snow, knotting the game up at 3-3.

With the Bison bench going crazy, OBU took the lead via Ouachita error with about 27 minutes to go. At that time, Snow mishit a free kick, and the ball was corralled by Fowler who completed the hat trick with a wide-open net. The Bison capped off their scoring courtesy of freshman Annabelle Joski who scored on a free kick from about 25 yards out into the upper-left portion of the net. That pushed the scoreboard to 5-3 at 67:29.

Though four more shots were attempted by Ouachita's Fowler, freshmen Paige Owens and Kasten Merrill, all were either missed, blocked or saved by Ireland Jeffrey.

Next on the schedule for the Bison is a match in Searcy, Ark. in two days against Harding at 11:00 a.m.
