MAGNOLIA, Ark. – A high-scoring second inning provided Southern Arkansas (29-13, 22-5 GAC) the cushion needed to earn an 8-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist (27-21, 13-14 GAC) in the series finale on Saturday.
The highly-touted Lady Muleriders defense proved to be too much, holding the Bison to two hits and a single run on the day.
After a scoreless first inning, SAU sparked the action with a five-run eruption in the bottom of the third.
Southern Arkansas remained hot their next time up, tacking on three more to go up 8-0.
OBU's defense were able to retire the opposition 1-2-3 at the bottom of the fourth before waking up to score their first run of the game to draw the tally 8-1.
The Bison's lone score was made possible by a Gwyn Miller single up the middle that crossed Aileen Avelar.
Unfortunately, that would sum up the Bison's success at the plate as the Lady Muleriders forced a couple more scoreless innings to claim the finale victory.
Offensively, Samantha Campos and Gwyn Miller tallied OBU's two hits.
In the circle, Kayleigh Jones struck out one in 1.1 innings of work before being relieved by Aspen Younce, who twirled for the remainder of the contest.
Younce registered four strikeouts and allowed four earned runs in 4.2 innings of action.
Next, Oklahoma Baptist returns home for the start of a weekend series with Arkansas-Monticello on Friday, April 22.
