BETHANY, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist (12-8, 4-3 GAC) offense endured a frustrating day, tallying just three hits in their 1-0 loss to Southern Nazarene (6-15, 3-4 GAC) in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
In fact, neither team fared well inside the batter's box as a total of seven hits were recorded. Instead, the game presented a handful of defensive plays and spectacular action inside the circle.
Despite giving up the contest's only run, pitcher Kayleigh Jones recorded 11 strikeouts and surrendered four hits in 6.0 innings of work. She faced 26 batters en route to her fifth appearance with 11 strikeouts. Jones was credited with today's loss, bringing her season record to 7-5.
After a scoreless debut at the top of the first from the Bison, Jones struck out three Crimson Storm batters to retire the inaugural inning.
Southern Nazarene rebounded their next time up, recording the first score of the game, courtesy of a solo home run.
Two hits in the third, compliments of Adi Reese and Jocee Sparks, put Bison on base but never across home plate.
Sammie Greene would tally the last hit of the game for OBU, tripling in the seventh before SNU recorded a final out to squeeze out their victory.
As mentioned, Reese, Sandoval, and Greene were the only Bison to register a hit this evening. Greene's triple was the first of her young career and the seventh for OBU this season.
Oklahoma Baptist will look to this weekend for their 2022 home opening series with East Central on Friday at 5 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday in a doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Bison Softball Park.
