RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Pitcher
Kayleigh Jones' career-high 13 strikeouts weren't enough to win as the Bison fell 3-0 to Arkansas Tech in game one of the weekend series against the Golden Suns on Friday night.
Oklahoma Baptist couldn't capitalize off Tech's two miscues, the only errors of the contest, as ATU fought off a talented Bison offense to surrender zero runs.
The Golden Suns got on board first, as a home run granted the home team a 1-0 advantage.
Over the next two frames, the Bison ripped off two hits, courtesy of
Sammie Greene and
Samantha Campos, resulting in blanks as the ATU defense retired the offense each time.
OBU couldn't find their rhythm as each time a glimmer of light showed, Arkansas Tech quickly closed the door. The Golden Suns added one more, at the bottom of the sixth, to cement their opening day victory.
Three Bison, Campos, Greene, and
Emily Richardson, registered a hit apiece. Additionally, Greene charted a stolen base, bringing her season total to 15.
Oklahoma Baptist's bright spot happened in the circle, as Jones added 13 more batters to her nation-leading strikeout total. She twirled through 5.0 innings, allowing two runs and two hits. Jones' loss brings her season record to 12-7.
Furthermore, pitcher
Aspen Younce entered as relief late, collecting one strikeout in an inning of work.
OBU will look to turn the tables as they'll finish out the series in a doubleheader tomorrow, set to begin at noon.
