No. 7 Dallas Baptist Bests No. 15 Bison

DALLAS – Seventh-ranked Dallas Baptist controlled possession in the first half and scored a trio of goals en route to a 5-0 win over No. 15 Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday night at Patriot Soccer Field.

DBU's speed was evident, and it helped the Patriots out-shoot the Bison 8-0 in the first.

Early on, Mia Pendleton made a couple nice plays including a save near the right post after a shot from Michelle Gonzalez. OBU's goalie then made a nice grab on a cross from the right side that thwarted a Patriot attack.

DBU kept its offensive pressure up and broke the scoreless tie in the 13th minute. A corner from the right side was put in play by Summerlyn Heller and she watched as teammate Ashley Merrill rose above two defenders and headed it home.

A little over five minutes later, another cross, this time from the left, was deflected to Melissa Jones who scored about seven yards out from the right post.

The Patriots added one more goal in the first half which gave them the 3-0 advantage.

In the second half, the Bison found a bit more offensive continuity courtesy of freshman Ellie Frost. The newcomer had a pair of on-target looks, once in the 50th minute and another four minutes later on a breakaway, however, DBU goalie Hailey Brown stopped both.

The Bison found one more on-goal shot from Keely Hampton but that, too, was denied.

By game's end, the hosts had a 15-5 shots advantage and a 14-3 lead in corner kicks.

Next on the schedule for OBU is another road date, this time at West Texas A&M (1-0) on Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.
