Softball Drops Opener to Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist softball team rallied late to even the game against Henderson State, but the Reddies used a walk-off single in the seventh to knock of the Bison 4-3 on Friday evening.

Aspen Younce was brilliant through four innings of work, holding the Reddies scoreless as she allowed only three hits to go with four strikeouts in the contest. Kayleigh Jones would take the rubber from there in relief.

Henderson State put a three spot in the board in the bottom half of the fifth, but OBU battled back in the sixth with three runs of their own on a two RBI single from Cheyenne Demaree and a RBI from Jocee Sparks to even the game back up.

The two teams remained scoreless as Jones settled in until the bottom of the seventh where Henderson got a runner on and drove in the winning run to earn the victory.

Jones took the loss despite striking out three in 2.2 innings of work. Demaree was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Sheyanne Sandoval also added a 2-for-4 day. Asia Henry and Shelby Savage were each 1-for-3 while McKenna Anderson was 1-for-4.

The Bison will look to bounce back on Saturday as they need one win to clinch a spot in the GAC Tournament. They take on the Reddies in a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
