Softball Drops Game One at Harding

SEARCY, Ark. – Despite another solid performance from pitcher Kayleigh Jones, the Oklahoma Baptist softball team could not solve Harding starter Lily Tanski on Friday evening as the Bison dropped a 2-1 decision on Friday evening at HU Softball Park.

OBU jumped out to the early lead in the top of the first with a two-out rally as Jocee Spraks got it started with an infield single followed by a RBI double from Cheyenne Demaree to take a 1-0 advantage.

Harding got the run back with an RBI double in the bottom half of the first to even it at one. The game remained that way until the fourth, when a pair of walks turned into an RBI single to put HU ahead 2-1.

OBU would get a leadoff single in the fifth and get the runner into scoring position, but had nothing to show for it. In the seventh, the Bison got the tying run in scoring position with one out and the winning run on base; however, Harding was able to escape the inning unscathed and take the 2-1 win.

Jones (L, 8-4) took the loss despite going the distance, allowing two runs on five hits to go with four strikeouts and four walks.

McKenna Anderson finished 2-for-3 on the day, while Demaree was 1-for-3 with a double and the lone RBI. Sparks, Asia Henry, and MIa Moddelmog all added a hit, while Shelby Savage had a run scored.

The Bison will look to bounce back and take the series as they battle Harding in a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
