SHAWNEE – It was a tough day for the Oklahoma Baptist softball team as they could not contain the red-hot bats of Ouachita, dropping the rubber match of their three-game series to the Tigers by the score of 17-6.
Ouachita gained the early lead 2-0, getting a run in the first and second before OBU evened the game back up with a two-run second inning bomb from
Mia Moddelmog to even the game at two.
However, the Tigers would explode for six runs in the third inning to take an 8-2 advantage. The Bison chipped away at the lead with a
Kylie Kawamura sac fly in the third, followed by a bases loaded three-run double from
Sheyanne Sandoval to cut it down to an 8-6 game with plenty of ball left to play.
Ouachita would put the game out of reach as a nine run sixth inning was too much for the Bison to overcome.
Sandoval finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Moddelmog was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Shelby Warden added a 1-for-1 day, while
Asia Henry and Kawamura each added a hit.
It was a tough day for Bison pitching as five different pitchers saw action on the day.
The Bison will look to bounce back next weekend as they welcome in Southwestern Oklahoma State for a three-game series. Game one of the series is scheduled to begin Friday at 5 p.m. at the Bison Softball Park.
