ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Oklahoma Baptist softball team split the day with Ouachita on Saturday afternoon to win their third straight Great American Conference series, falling to the Tigers 4-3 before striking back to take a 4-1 victory.
Game one got off to a great start for OBU as
Shelby Savage scored on a passed ball for the 1-0 lead in the first inning. In the fourth, OBU pushed that lead to 3-0 as
McKenna Anderson slapped a double.
However, Ouachita got two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth, slowing down the Bison bats in the process to hold on for the 4-3 victory.
Katie Long took the loss in the circle, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out two while
Aspen Younce pitched 1.2 innings and struck out three.
Emily Richardson was 2-for-3Â while
Kaytlyn Marsh,
Emily Smith, and Anderson all had a hit and a double in the game.Â
In game two, Long returned to the circle and fired a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and striking out four to earn her sixth win of the season.
Sheyanne Sandoval singled home a run in the third to break a scoreless drought while Long reached on a fielder's choice to make it a 2-0 game. Smith broke it open in the fourth with RBI triple while
Kylie Kawamura drove Smith home with a sac fly to make it a 4-0 game.
Ouachita got one back in the seventh, but Long slammed the door shut to finish out the game and earn the win.
Richardson was 2-for-3 while Smith was 1-for-3 with a triple, a RBI, and a run. Sandoval was 2-for-4 with a RBI while
Cheyenne Demaree was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
OBU moves to 14-10 overall and 10-2 in the GAC. They will return home next weekend to Bison Softball Park as they welcome in Harding for a four game series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
