SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's tennis team played some of its best tennis of the year Thursday afternoon as it picked up its second conference win of the season, defeating Emporia State, 7-0. The win brings OBU's overall record to 5-5.
Â
OBU split Nos. 1 and 2 in doubles, leaving it up to
Andres Graterol and
Rhett Rollins against ESU's Theo Belmonte and Cameron Keinholz. With the match going back and forth, the teams met at six all, sending the match to a tiebreaker. OBU's service game came up big for the Bison as they came out on top, 8-6, to earn the doubles nod.
Â
OBU saw three singles matches go the distance, yet managed to pull each of them out, including
Andres Graterol and
Rhett Rollins who dropped their first sets. The other three saw dominant straight set victories, giving up a combined three total games as OBU came away with the sweep.
"Today's match was one of our better singles performances all year," said head coach
Jason Proctor. "Proud of the guys for firing on all cylinders today against a very capable opponent."Â
With OBU's
Bruno Suiama now confirmed out for the year with injury, Proctor considered the play of his new No. 1
Andres Graterol.
"Graterol was particularly impressive today in clinching both the doubles point and the match for us."
