ALVA, Okla. - The bats remained hot for the Oklahoma Baptist softball team on Saturday afternoon as they completed the four game sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State by the scores of 11-4 and 10-8.
The Bison picked up where they left on on Friday evening as
Emily Richardson belted a two-run homer to left field in the first for the early 2-0 lead.
Cheyenne Demaree followed with a solo shot in the second inning while
Kylie Kawamura drove in two on a RBI single and Richardson drove in her third run of the game on a groundout to increase the lead to 6-0.
Northwestern got one back in the second inning before
Emily Smith added a RBI on a sac bunt in the third and Demaree added to her total with a RBI double in the fifth to push the lead to 8-1.
In the sixth, the Bison got a two run blast from
Jadyn James and Demaree's third RBI of the day on a single to open up an 11-1 lead. The Lady Rangers added three in the sixth, but Oklahoma Baptist closed the game out with an 11-4 win.
Katie Long (W, 3-2) went the distance, allowing only two earned runs on eight hits to go with seven strikeouts to earn her second win of the weekend.Â
Offensively, Kawamura was 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored while Demaree was 3-for-3 with a long ball and three RBI. James was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI while Richardson was 1-for-5 with three RBI including a home run.
Kaytlyn Marsh was 2-for-4 with three runs scored while
Sheyanne Sandoval also added a two hit game.
Game two saw OBU race to a 4-0 lead as Richardson drove in the first run of the game on a RBI single. With the bases loaded later in the inning, Demaree laced a double to left, scoring all three runs, and pushing the lead to 4-0.
However, Northwestern responded with a six spot in the bottom half of the first as OBU was trailing for the first time since game one of the series at 6-4.
James inched OBU closer with a RBI single in the third before OBU broke it back open in the third. Smith homered down the left field line while Kawamura doubled to left center, scoring two. James capped the inning with a RBI single to push the lead to 9-6.
The Lady Rangers got one back in the third, but OBU eventually answered that in the sixth on a sacrifice from Demaree to go ahead 10-7. Northwestern threatened with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Long shut the door for the save and the four game sweep.
Kayleigh Jones got the start and struggled before
Aspen Younce came in relief in the first. Younce (W, 5-4) got the win in 5.2 innings of work, allowing four runs off six hits to go with four strikeouts. Long got her first save of the year as she faced three batters and struck one out.
James was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Kawamura was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Demaree drove in four despite going 1-for-3 while Smith was 2-for-3 with a home run and a RBI.
Shelby Savage was 1-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.
The Bison move to .500 at 8-8 overall and 4-0 in the GAC to start the young season.Â
OBU will open the year at Bison Park after playing their first 16 games away from home. They welcome in Henderson State for a four game series beginning on Friday with a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m.
